About AustralScape
AustralScape is a curated collection of landscape photography and visual art inspired by Patagonia, the Andes, the Altiplano, and the remote landscapes of southern South America.
Most of the collection consists of photographs created during real expeditions through mountains, forests, glaciers, deserts, and wilderness routes. No AI-generated imagery. No stock photography. Just real places, real journeys, and real moments.
Some works are presented as artistic interpretations inspired by those same landscapes and experiences, extending the collection beyond photography while remaining connected to the same places, journeys, and spirit of exploration.
The project was founded by Chilean photographer, mountaineer, and travel writer Santiago Canales, whose journeys through Patagonia, the Andes, and the Altiplano continue to inspire the collection. Most of the works featured in AustralScape are his own, created during years of exploration across some of the most remarkable landscapes in South America.
Occasionally, the collection also includes photographs and artistic works from trusted companions and fellow adventurers whose creations share the same spirit, values, and connection to the landscape. Every piece is selected under the same curatorial vision: authentic experiences in wild places.
AustralScape is, above all, a project born from love. These images are the result of the activity Santiago loves most—exploring remote landscapes—combined with the places he loves most. Behind every work there is a journey, an effort, a story, and a genuine connection with the natural world.
As a writer, Santiago also documents many of these experiences through books and travel narratives inspired by mountains, wilderness, and long-distance journeys. AustralScape is another way of sharing those experiences: through images instead of words.
