A small boat crosses the immense waters of Lake General Carrera beneath a sky layered with soft Patagonian clouds. Beyond the lake, mountain ranges fade into the distance, creating a sense of depth and quiet rarely found in modern life.

Captured by Santiago Canales during a solo bicycle expedition along the southern section of Chile’s Carretera Austral in February 2018, this photograph reflects the remote character of one of Patagonia’s most untouched regions. Near the Southern Patagonian Ice Field, the area is shaped by glaciers, vast lakes, and long stretches of wilderness.

Viewed from a bridge overlooking one of the lake's western inlets, the scene balances human presence with the overwhelming scale of the landscape. The small boat becomes a subtle reminder of exploration, movement, and connection to place.
