The landscape is still asleep when the first light reaches the mountains.

Captured by Santiago Canales in February 2024 at dawn near the beginning of Paso Vuriloche, this photograph reveals a fleeting moment where mist, forest, and mountain ridges dissolve into soft layers of shadow and light. The subdued colors of early morning create an atmosphere that feels both calm and mysterious.

Paso Vuriloche is a historic mountain crossing connecting Argentina and Chile through dense temperate rainforest, rivers, and remote valleys. Once part of the route used by Jesuit missionaries, today it remains accessible only on foot or horseback during the summer season.

Rather than documenting a destination, this image captures a mood: silence before movement, darkness before daybreak, and the immense scale of the Patagonian wilderness.
